MIKEY D.O.N

WED 10.08.22

A frequent selector here at Ramona and our sister venue The Firehouse. A real legend in the music scene, Mikey started his career at a very early age – 1986 saw Mikey and his older brother start rap group KRISPY 3 who were one of the first UK Hip Hop acts to do BBC Radio 1 Sessions for ‘Sir’ John Peel, Steve Lamacq & Jo Whiley. Since 1985 he has been MC’ing and spinning with the likes Lee Scratch Perry, David Rodigan and Dillinger, Hip Hop acts Big Daddy Kane, Slum Village and Roots Manuva, funk groups like Roy Ayers and Breakestra, and D&B/Junglist legends Nicky Blackmarket, Aries, and DJ Hype.

People’s biggest mistake trying to pigeonhole Mikey as a Reggae DJ – and they couldn’t be more mistaken. Mikey simply loves spinning great records to the masses, whether Reggae, Soul, Funk, Hip Hop, Boogie, Disco, Acid House, Rave, Jungle, D&B, Jazz, or even Pop music. When rocking a club from behind the turntables, or just holding the mic, there’s no doubt Mikey D.O.N. is THE force to be reckoned with!

GIles Smith (Secret Sundaze)

WED 13.07.22
Originally as the name suggested a Sunday daytime party, playing house music but leaning into soul, disco, broken beat and anything that moved them, Time Out stated Secretsundaze “changed the face of daytime clubbing”. Huxley

WED 11.05.22
Raised on garage music, U.K. producer Huxley retained his love of deep, grimey bass as he entered into music production while in his teens, but his higher end tends to be soulful and dreamy, a combination that made his sound unique within the crowded world of house music. Born and raised Michael Dodman in Tring, England, Huxley debuted in 2009 with a series of EPs recorded with British house producer Tim Hopgood, aka Ethyl. The duo recorded for labels like Cécille Numbers and Tsuba before Huxley joined the latter as a solo artist with 2010’s Purple EP. Then in 2013, he joined the Aus label with the EPs The Machine and Inkwell. A year later, Aus released his debut album Blurred, which featured a guest appearance from S-Man, aka Roger Sanchez.

Chunky

WED 04.05.22
Chunky is a proud Mancunian with roots in Zimbabwe (having relocated from there as a child) which may explain such a worldly, open-minded, outlook on life. Onstage, this translates into a rare ability to work any crowd into a frenzy, whilst handling everything from the latest, bass-heavy cuts to live jazz with consummate ease. In the musical metropolis that is Manchester, Chunky has long been the hardest working MC/DJ/PRODUCER on the circuit. Performing alongside the many itinerant ‘A-Listers’ passing through the city each week soon brought him to the attention of TRUE TIGER, LOEFAH, PEARSON SOUND and many more. Since then, Chunky’s stomping grounds have been ever-expanding and he is now resident MC for SWAMP 81, TRUE TIGER and HESSLE AUDIO, a side of which has made him one of FABRIC’s most frequent performers.
