THE British Soul Star of the moment. Mica has had a crazy 2022, dropping her first album to global acclaim and then announcing plans to headline both the MCR Albert Hall & London’s Jazz Cafe this September. Described as “one of the best vocalists in the UK” by BBC Introducing, the Soul newcomer is already fiercely championed by a slew of highly esteemed collaborators and tastemakers across the UK and US.
A master of her craft, we’re proud that the incredibly talented Mica is coming to take over our gaff (before she takes over the world). All power to you, Mica.
The legendary Bill Brewster is a record collector, DJ, writer and Grimsby Town supporter. He’s the author of four books (with pioneering hip hop DJ Frank Broughton), including seminal ‘Last Night A DJ Saved My Life’, and previously worked as Editor at MixMag USA.
Bill was a founding resident DJ at Fabric in London, and also ran the legendary Low Life parties for over 20 years. Basically, this man knows his dance music. He’s swinging thru specifically to run rhythm track, and we can’t wait.
Infamous sets of 2 step, techno and breakbeat have seen this local lad added to every line up in the galaxy post lockdown, even launching his own label ATW Records.
Mixmag credits him with helping to further the resurgence of UK Garage – introducing a new generation to the bouncy bangers and nostalgic feel of the 90s dancefloor.
Big things agwan! The Interglalactic one stops by to smash out all the music that made him.
A frequent selector here at Ramona and our sister venue The Firehouse. A real legend in the music scene, Mikey started his career at a very early age – 1986 saw Mikey and his older brother start rap group KRISPY 3 who were one of the first UK Hip Hop acts to do BBC Radio 1 Sessions for ‘Sir’ John Peel, Steve Lamacq & Jo Whiley. Since 1985 he has been MC’ing and spinning with the likes Lee Scratch Perry, David Rodigan and Dillinger, Hip Hop acts Big Daddy Kane, Slum Village and Roots Manuva, funk groups like Roy Ayers and Breakestra, and D&B/Junglist legends Nicky Blackmarket, Aries, and DJ Hype.
People’s biggest mistake trying to pigeonhole Mikey as a Reggae DJ – and they couldn’t be more mistaken. Mikey simply loves spinning great records to the masses, whether Reggae, Soul, Funk, Hip Hop, Boogie, Disco, Acid House, Rave, Jungle, D&B, Jazz, or even Pop music. When rocking a club from behind the turntables, or just holding the mic, there’s no doubt Mikey D.O.N. is THE force to be reckoned with!
Yes the mayor! Andy swings in for pizza quite a bit so we asked him if he fancied DJing. Obviously he said he’d absolutely love to!
