Quadrastate followedthis and included Pacific State which became an end-of-night anthem at the Haçienda. Thetrack broke out of the dance underground when it was picked up by daytime BBC Radio 1.The band pushed against dance-celebrity culture with intentionally minimalist record sleevesand a reluctance to self-promote. In 1989 Paul Morley signed the band to the ZTT label, andthe first fruit of this partnership, the album Ninety, was awarded 10 out of 10 by the NME.The Guardian declared that with this record, “808 State mapped out the future of club music, utilising techno, ambient and rock…”

A frequent selector here at Ramona and our sister venue The Firehouse. Since 1985 he has been MC’ing and spinning with the likes Lee Scratch Perry, David Rodigan and Dillinger, Hip Hop acts Big Daddy Kane, Slum Village and Roots Manuva, funk groups like Roy Ayers and Breakestra, and D&B/Junglist legends Nicky Blackmarket, Aries, and DJ Hype.

Elliott and Russell join us to discuss life as touring musician for one of the UK’s biggest bands. From their Mercury Prize shortlisted debut The Back Room, to #1 debuting An End Has A Start, platinum selling In This Light and On This Evening, sprawling, transitional The Weight of Your Love, moody, self-produced In Dream and their 6th top 10 album in a row, 2018’s explosive Violence, Editors have refused to either stay still or compromise. This is perhaps the key to their longevity. It also no doubt also owes something to a hugely dedicated fanbase, both home and abroad, which sees them regularly performing sold out tours across the UK, Europe and further afield.
